Egg is commonly used in creating medicines. There is considerable debate as to whether those allergic to eggs can have the shots. In most cases, it was considered safe. However, if anaphylaxis then I would not. But only you and your Doctor can decide what is safe for you. In my case, because I've been known to turn anaphylaxis without warning and because I'm allergic by smell to all Avian - including cooked, and most allergic to Chicken, my doctor and I that I would not get the shots anymore. Drug Information: Egg = possibly Cisteine, Propofol or diprivan medicine, flu shot (but people aren't reacting so far). Flu shots contains Chicken Embryo and is NOT considered safe for those anaphylaxis to egg. Influenza (flu) and measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccines are not suitable for those with egg allergies. In addition, the following non-routine vaccines contain egg protein: yellow fever and typhoid vaccines. NOTE: This link is from 2006 and has been debated back and forth so many times that in my opinion, if you carry an epi-pen for egg, then skip the shots. The problem is that with allergies, we may not react every single time. Clinical Update, from 2006 , by Barbara E Eldred, Angela J Dean, Treasure M McGuire and Allan L Nash. Summary: Influenza shot should not be taken by those anaphylactic to eggs. This would also include the Yellow Fever shot. Also, those who react to Gelatin should not get the Influenza shot. back to top
